a peek into my week 9/13-9/20

According to my new blogging schedule (!), Fridays are now dedicated to looking back on the previous week. In general, I try to keep my posts concise and to-the-point which, unfortunately, doesn’t leave much room for randomness. That’s where Friday’s posts come in- I’m giving myself free-range to share anything I’ve thought, experienced, and learned recently. An unfiltered “peek into my week”.

A Peek Into My Week 9/13-9/20:

Things I Did:

peekinmyweek9201. Discovered an [expensive] addiction

After falling into a rut of eating not-so-healthy, I decided to kick my butt into gear this week. I’m not on a diet- not even close- and I’m far from eating ‘clean’, but I needed a change. I felt yucky and my body was craving more fresh foods and less processed crap. So, I listened. I started with incorporating some green juices into my daily routine and, holy moly, I’m addicted. Too bad these suckers are $6/bottle.

2. Wined & dined with an old friend

One of my best friends from high-school is going to film school out in LA and we’ve yet to truly reconnect since she’s been here. We had a girl’s night last night, complete with homemade pasta/salad/wine, and it was absolutely perfect. We’ve both grown and changed so much and yet it feels like we were never apart. True friendship is one of the most beautiful things ever.

peekinmyweek92023. Broke out the candles

If I close my eyes and think reeaaally hard, it almost feels like Fall. Out come the candles. Naturally.

4. Found an exception to the ‘no white after Labor Day’ rule

Subtle and chic, just the way I like it. Thank you, Chanel, for your over-priced nail polish.

5. Rediscovered my ripped jeans

I can’t say that I’m a fan of this summer’s “grunge” trend but I have rekindled my love for destroyed denim. And denim jackets. And denim on denim. Okay, I’m done saying denim now.

Things I Learned

IMG_7538

1. I don’t like pumpkin spice lattes and I’m not alone

2. Conquering fear IS possible (article)

3. Whole Food’s really is a cult (article)

4. They’re remaking The Sound of Music…with Carrie Underwood (article)

5. Disney Princesses officially ‘wear the pants’ (article)

Welp, that’s that. My week in review. The entertainment industry really is feast or famine…one week I can’t keep up with the auditions/jobs and the next there are none to be found. Obviously this week was the latter. Ah well- on to the next! I’ll be back next Friday for [read: scheduled] installment #2.

Here’s to another 7 days of possibility…

  1. i’m shocked by your admission of not loving pumpkin spice lattes — but i think we’ll all forgive you anyway 🙂

  2. I’m kind of ashamed to admit that I remember the PSLs tasting better last year. That doesn’t mean I won’t be drinking them (because I still like them haha), I just think the Christmasy drinks are more up my alley 😉

Me tooooo. The Christmas drinks are my weakness- I can’t wait for those red cups!

I can’t do PSLs either!! I don’t know why. I love pumpkin pie though and pumpkin cookies 🙂 that’s it.
    Any plans for the wknd?

      Me too!
And I’ve actually been working most of the weekend and got to visit with my mom yesterday while she was in town. So nice! I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend!

Not a fan of the PSLs either. Peppermint mochas, on the other hand, are an addiction of mine around Christmastime. I just love anything and everything mint-flavored!

I really want to get into juicing and green juices BUT I know it’d be something I’d really like and I’d feel obligated to spend a ton of money on juices. So I’m hoping I can find a cheap juicer somewhere and experiment with it myself.

    • Emily said:

Ooooh…anything with mint from Starbucks is heaven!
I actually have a juicer but I never use it. The process is just sooo lengthy and it’s HUGE so I can’t leave it out when I’m not using it. haha. Or maybe I’m just lazy…

I actually am not a big fan of pumpkin spiced lattes. I dare not say it in front of my friends, or better yet bloggers, they always are so shocked as if I said some crazy talk. Haha. Glad I’m not alone. Also, I LOVE green juices. It sucks that they are so expensive though, I definitely agree with you on that one :/

    • Emily said:

Exactly! People think we’re crazy. But it’s nice to know we’re not alone. (:
And I know! My bank account is hurting this week. I have a juicer but it’s such a pain to put together/use/clean/put away that I’d rather just spend $6 on a bottle. I’m lazy…

Sounds like you had a refreshing week! I can relate on the expensive addictions! One of my favorite food bars costs around $2.50 at TJ’s, and it’s so tempting to not to buy it everyday :P! Miraculously I don’t, but still…

  7. I’m with you on the PSLs – waaaaay too sweet and artificial tasting to me. Give me my dry cappuccinos with lots of foam any day 😀 And if you ever need it to feel like fall, you’re more than welcome to visit! Temps have been cooling down a lot here and the leaves are getting all nice and pretty. Now if only it would stay this way and not get any colder!

    • Emily said:

Cappuccinos will always reign supreme in my book.
And I would love to come take advantage of your Fall-like temperatures! I’ll be out of there before it gets crazy cold though…I can’t handle that!

You have to find a pumpkin spice candle to add to the fall experience (the brand ashland is amazing). Here in the midwest we are definitely getting cooler weather which is so lovely…until it becomes winter and below zero then LA weather looks pretty amazing 🙂

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    • Emily said:

I can’t even imagine dealing with weather than cold! I’ve gone to NYC for Christmas/New Years a few times and it was fun to experience the snow and stuff for a while…then I was over it. Us Californians aren’t used to that!

  9. I think I’m one of the few people in the blog world that has NEVER even tried a pumpkin spice latte. I’m not a big coffee drinker, so I’m not sure how I’d feel about it.

    • Emily said:

Lol! Well, I don’t think they taste very much like coffee so you might actually like them. They’re just too sweet for me!

  10. Lisa said:

Yay another non lover of PSL’s. They make my stomach hurt bad for some reason. Probably all the sugar!
Ah, I’m actually TOTALLY feeling you on cleaning up the eats a bit. I’ve fallen off the wagon a bit, and while I didn’t mind at first – it’s starting to affect my energy. So that’s a no go.
Even so, I’m still going out for drinks tonight with friends…so woops!

    • Emily said:

Girl, if you think you’ve fallen off the wagon, you would be appalled at the things I’ve been eating. haha. Based on your posts, you’re still managing to eat super healthy!
And it’s okay, I’m having a girls dinner/wine night tonight too. That’s what weekends are for!

  11. some pumpkin spiced lattes are disgusting. but I’ve had good ones too. I need to clean up on my eating too .. I realized how much bleugh I feel. yay to candle burning! I am waiting for it to be a little more cool down here to start so it feels more warm and homey. I hope your weekend is going well!

    • Emily said:

Yeah, that’s how I’ve felt too! Focusing on getting more fresh fruits and veggies has made all the difference in the world!
