Monthly Archives: February 2014

First and foremost, happy birthday to my amazing mom. I love you so much.

This month was crazy- so crazy- and I loved every minute of it.

Between working at the restaurant, my internship, blogging for polished.tv, maintaining this blog, attending events, visiting home, and…you know, having a life…I felt like I barely had a chance to breathe. But that’s the kind of lifestyle I thrive in. I always get more done when there’s a lot to do.

And there you have it- February in a whole bunch of collages. I don’t know exactly what March has in store but if it’s anything like the past two months, it’s sure to be an eventful 31 days.

Here’s to another month…

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the love that was left on my one year post. I’m so happy that I started this blogging journey and I can’t wait to see what the next year has in store.

I’ll be honest, I had no idea that I’d be ready for another ’empties’ post so soon. I figured it would be [at least] 3 or 4 months before I had anything new to show you but my trash piled up really quickly.

I have a good and bad reviews to share this time around and I kind of love that. As much as I wish that I loved every product I tried, a mix of reviews makes for a much more interesting post.

(reviewed from right to left)

Tresemme Heat-Tamer Spray: If you’re not using a heat-protectant, you should be. It changed my life. This was the first bottle I ever bought and I loved it. I’m planning to try a different brand next- just for kicks- but definitely didn’t have any complaints about the product.

MAC Mineralize Foundation: I swore by MAC foundation for years but, recently, this one totally broke me out. Either my skin changed or their formula did. I’ll be staying away from now on.

Oi Hair Oil: My favorite hair product on the face of the planet. No joke. My stylist told forced me to invest in this pricey oil and I can’t thank her enough. Plus, the bottle lasted me almost a year. It’s like a leave-in conditioner, shine spray, and restorative oil all in one. Highly, highly recommended.

Burt’s Bees Chapstick: Yep, another one. I have a problem.

Nars Blush: (in Orgasm) I’ve had this blush for 2(?) years now and I’ve loved every single day of using it. The color really does suit any skin tone and it’s extremely pigmented. Time to buy another one.

Benefit Watt’s Up Highlighter: This was a sample that totally surprised me. I always thought highlighters were a waste of money- wrong. I simply swipe it above my cheekbones and on my nose and it adds instant definition and depth. I’ve already started using the full size.

Revlon PhotoReady Makeup: Bleh. Not impressed. Maybe it’s because the color felt slightly too dark for my skin or maybe the product is a dud. Either way, it left my skin looking cakey. Boo.

Olay Cleansing Wipes: I use these almost every night to take my makeup off and they’re the only wipes I’ve come across that don’t irritate my skin. They can burn your eyes if you use them to take off eye-makeup so I generally use my BioDerma for that but, overall, I’ve been satisfied with them.

Am I the only one who goes through products this quickly? Sheesh!

Build Your Bliss is officially one-year old. Unreal.

I started this blog on a whim. I was frustrated, confused, lonely…you name it, I felt it. I needed a creative outlet and- after many failed blogging attempts- I decided to give it one more shot.

I didn’t have any plans. I didn’t have any expectations. I just promised myself that I would be honest. I wasn’t going to hide my blog from my friends and family, I wasn’t going to change myself for the sake of my posts, and I wasn’t going to try to fit into any specific blogging category. I was just going to share my journey towards building my own bliss and [hopefully] inspire others along the way.

Build Your Bliss has changed me.

I’ve discovered a passion for writing that I never knew I had. I’ve gained confidence, freedom, and independence. I’ve made amazing friends and been inspired by every single one of them. I’ve taken risks, made mistakes, had successes, and grown up more than I could have ever imagined.

But more than anything, I’ve learned that perfect is not synonymous with happy.

Bliss is not about following the “right” path, making the “right” decisions, or living the “right” way. There is no “right”- there is only you. Bliss is about surrounding yourself with beautiful people, freeing yourself from the need for perfection, and doing the things that make you smile every single day.

So, thank you. Thank you for your constant support. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for being a part of this journey. I can’t wait to see what the next year has in store for you, me, and this blog.

I know I already professed my love for basics in my uniform post last week, but I’m here to harp about them again. A beautiful wardrobe is always built on a solid foundation of basics. Statement pieces and seasonal trends should be add-ons to what you already know, own, and love.

In my opinion, there are four wardrobe essentials that every girl needs. These are the most basic of basics, the core of your closet. They can be used as a base for a creative outfit or go-to pieces for the lazy days when you just don’t want to think. To me, they’re necessary and I think you’ll agree.

DSC_0055I’m not saying that these are the only four things you need in your closet- far from it. But they’re the perfect place to start. Building a wardrobe that you love, feel proud of, and that truly reflects your personality takes time. Ask yourself what your dream closet would look like and then take small, consistent steps to make it a reality. So far, I’m loving my journey. Care to join me?

If dogs are a man’s best friend, then purses are a woman’s. That’s not to say that I don’t love dogs- I do- but a girl’s handbag ensures that she’ll never be without her essentials. They go everywhere with us and, if you’re like me, they turn into a bottomless pit of “stuff”. Very important stuff, mind you.

I shared a peek into my purse a few months ago but that was when I was using a small, cross-body. Since then, my sister bought me this gorgeous tote from Urban Outfitters that I’m hopelessly in love with. It’s basically a giant bucket- no compartments, no pockets, no zippers. It allows me to toss things in and carry around anything I could possibly need. What more could a girl ask for?

In My Bag: February 2014

1. Keys // 2. Advil // 3. Wallet- Marc by Marc Jacobs // 4. Cell-Phone- iPhone 4S, Free People Case //

5. Lip Products- Bath & Body Works lipgloss, Burt’s Bees chapstick, Elizabeth Arden lipstick //

6. Hand Lotion- EOS // 7. Kitty Mirror- Forever 21 // 8. Sunglasses- Tortoise & Blonde

So, I’m quite sure I’ve developed Mary-Poppin’s Bag Syndrome- the bigger the better, right?

If I had to pick one outfit to wear for the rest of my life it would be dark jeans, a basic t-shirt layered over a lace bralette, and my favorite pair of sneakers. That’s my happy place. I come back to some version of that ensemble multiple times a week and use accessories to change it up.

To some, it’s boring. To me, it’s classic. I think it’s important for everyone to define their “uniform”. What pieces do you always gravitate towards? What outfit makes you feel sexy and confident while also being comfortable? That’s what you should build your wardrobe around. That’s your style.

Thank you to everyone for the amazing love and support you shared on my last post. I’m absolutely loving the internship and have my first article for their website scheduled to go up on Monday!

I’d like to introduce you to the newest member of the family…

IMG_6430Nikon 1 J3

After months years of thinking, wishing, and researching, I finally bought a camera. I had every intention of investing in a serious DSLR camera (and even bought/returned a Canon Rebel t3i) but quickly realized that they just weren’t practical for me. I needed a camera that would take good, quality photos and that I could easily carry around with me- the Nikon 1 J3 fit the bill perfectly.

Not only will I [obviously] be using this for my blog photos, I’ll also be able to use it for different projects throughout my internship. It’s opening up a whole new world of photography for me.

…now I’ll just live off of rice and beans for the next few months. Sacrifice. (:

Here’s to practical investments…
