a weekend of learning

To say that this weekend was overwhelming would be an understatement. I’m not voicing that as a complaint- it’s just to give you an idea of the mayhem that ensued. I wasn’t supposed to work all weekend but, thanks to a coworker, that’s how it worked out. On top of that, the winds of change have been stirring and my life is going to be flipped upside-down in the next few months. I’m not ready to delve into all of that just yet but I will as soon as things are finalized.

Anyways, back on track…

Despite the craziness, I managed to balance out the work with some play. And, since bliss is all about finding a balance, I’ll consider that a success. Plus, I learned a thing or two along the way…

Lesson #1: Not even pre-movie drinks could make Spring Breakers bearable. It was honestly the worst movie I’ve seen in years. My advice? Don’t waste $16 dollars. If you must watch it- wait for Redbox.

Me & Tara

Lesson #2: Unless it’s an emergency, it’s never okay to “call out” from work at the last second. I wound up working a double shift yesterday (for the second weekend in a row) because the same person called out “sick” again. When you have a job, you show up. End of story.

Lesson #3: When you’re suddenly hit with an 8-hour day, this is 100% acceptable…

Lesson #4: Lionel will always be able to put a smile on my face. No matter what.

Lesson #5: When I’m not working out/getting sweaty, I’m totally capable of going 3 days without washing my hair. Pssst! dry shampoo is my best friend- thanks, Claire! (And yes, I still showered…)

There you have it- my weekend in a nutshell. This week? I have jury duty (aka: DEATH). Wish me luck.

Here’s to making the most of life’s little lessons…

Ugh, 8-hour shifts are horrible :(. I used to cashier at a big box store during one summer, and it was awful cause I had to stand up the whole time (minus breaks and a lunch).

I don’t plan on watching Spring Breakers ever, but thanks for the heads up. The movie looked stupid from the beginning :P.

Exactly! It’s exhausting. I literally sat down for 30 minutes (my lunch break) and was running around the rest of the day. It’s crazy.
And yeah- I was hoping the movie would surprise me & be good but no such luck!

Lesson #6a: Naps are the best thing to refuel after a long week 🙂
Lesson #6b: Nap during jury duty

Okay- this comment just made my day. haha
      I’ll be doing just that!

  3. your cat is so cute 😀 and I also hate working long hours, but coffee and snacks make it bearable!

So very true! Thank goodness for caffeine (:

I’m glad! It’s definitely not worth the money. haha. It was quite possibly the strangest movie I’ve seen in years!

  4. I don’t have a cute kitty like Lionel, but I can tell you that dry shampoo definitely puts a smile on my face! I’m not a big fan of having to go through the whole process of blow drying and styling my hair, so I try to squeeze out as many days between washes as possible. That and I find that my hair gets way too dry when I wash it too often.

Good luck with jury duty this week! I second the comment that encourages you to use it as a chance to catch up on some sleep 😉

      I agree!
I used to wash my hair every single day, without fail. I cringe when I think about that now! My hair is so much healthier now that I’m not constantly getting rid of the natural oils. (:

  5. Oh no, good luck with jury duty! I got called in for that in the fall and I was stuck there for the entire day even though I wasn’t part of the jury 😦 Definitely bring something to keep you busy (or nap!)

Energy drinks are totally acceptable in that case! I wish people wouldn’t flake out on stuff all the time, especially if it’s their job.

They tried to keep me all day too! But, I wound up getting my jury service postponed because I have training for my new position at work this week and wouldn’t have been able to be there if I was chosen for a trail.
      Thank goodness!

  6. I know how you feel with co-workers “calling-off”. I’ve had to do the same thing before and work an entire weekend because they were “sick”. It’s no fun. Hope your week gets off to a better start<3

    • Emily said:

It’s so frustrating! But, oh well. At least it’ll be a nice paycheck!
      Thanks, girly!

  7. HA I loved that you pregamed a movie! I honestly haven’t been to the movies for over 2 years (I know, I know), but next time I think I am going to take your lead and imbibe beforehand 🙂

Haha! It was so much fun! Highly recommended. (:
